Body
BACKGROUND

This action will authorize a professional services contract with Westwood Professional Services, Inc. to provide design improvements for two storm water dams. Both dams have been identified by previous studies to be in need of improvements to address safety concerns and the hydraulic inadequacy of the spillway and existing earthen dam. Cherrybrook Lake Dam and Hatfield Branch Dam are in the Trinity River Basin in the city of Dallas. Both are small, high-hazard compacted earth filled dams. These dams are currently incapable of passing the amount of flow to meet regulatory requirements for the probable maximum flood.

The services provided for this project include project management, topographic and boundary surveys, subsurface utility exploration, geotechnical investigations, structural analysis, drainage studies including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and development of preliminary and final construction plans and specifications. The engineer will complete designs and construction documents for the redesign of dam geometry, material composition changes, and improvements to the spillways to provide a sufficient factor of safety to meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Dam Safety Program criteria.
