BACKGROUND
On April 20, 2026, the City of Dallas received a memorandum from the Director of Transportation and Public Works requesting consideration of a street name change for East and West Davenport Road, between Preston Road and North and South Davenport Road, to “Brentfield Drive.” The statement of reasons supporting the request is included in the attached memorandum.
On May 4, 2026, notification signs were posted along East and West Davenport Road, between Preston Road and North and South Davenport Road, in accordance with Section 51A-9.503(b) of the Dallas Development Code.
On June 6, 2026, notices were mailed to the 34 property owners abutting the street, informing them of the City Council hearing regarding the street name change request, in accordance with Section 51A-9.503(b) of the Dallas Development Code. The notice of June 24, 2026, City Council hearing was also published in the newspaper on June 6, 2026.
The proposed renaming of the east-west segment of Davenport Road to Brentfield Drive is intended to improve public safety by reducing confusion caused by the current street naming configuration. The change would create a more consistent and intuitive roadway network, helping emergency responders navigate more efficiently and minimizing the risk of delays or addressing errors during public safety calls.
The proposed street name, “Brentfield Drive,” contains 16 characters. The street-type designation “Drive” may be abbreviated to “Dr.” to comply with this requirement. The proposed change of “Davenport Road” to “Brentfield Drive” complies with Section 51A-9.304(a)(5).
The proposed change of a portion of “Davenport Road” to “Brentfield Drive” complies with Section 51A-9.504(a)(1), as it represents an extension of Brentfield Drive. Brentfield Drive is the existing east-west street that becomes East and West Davenport Road west of North and South Davenport Road.
The proposed change of East and West Davenport Road, between Preston Road and North and South Davenport Road, to “Brentfield Drive” complies with Section 51A-9.304(b)(1). The remaining portion of North and South Davenport Road will not be changed.
ESTIMATED SCHEDULE OF PROJECT
A street name approved by the city council takes effect 60 days after the date of its approval unless the city council sets a later effective date.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On May 21, 2026, the Subdivision Review Committee, by unanimous vote, recommended approval of the request to rename East and West Davenport Road, between Preston Road and North and South Davenport Road, to “Brentfield Drive”.
On June 11, 2026, the City Plan Commission, by a vote of 9 to 0, recommended approval of the street name change of East and West Davenport Road, between Preston Road and North and South Davenport Road, to “Brentfield Drive”.
FISCAL INFORMATION
New Street blades are to be prepared and paid for by the City of Dallas; potential future costs to the city are estimated at $452.00.
