SUBJECT

Title

Authorize a construction services contract for the installation of water and wastewater mains at 24 locations (list attached to the Agenda Information Sheet) - John Burns Construction Company of Texas, lowest responsible bidder of seven - Not to exceed $17,444,383.00 - Financing: Water (Drinking Water) - 2022 TWDB Fund ($9,891,963.00) and Wastewater (Clean Water) - 2022 TWDB Fund ($7,552,420.00)

Body

BACKGROUND

This action will authorize a construction contract for the installation of approximately 45,460 feet of water and wastewater mains. This includes the installation of approximately 600 feet of 6-inch, 16,560 feet of 8-inch, and 2,580 feet of 12-inch diameter water mains and the installation of approximately 1,360 feet of 6-inch, 21,790 feet of 8-inch, 1,930 feet of 12-inch, and 640 feet of 15-inch diameter wastewater mains.

The existing water and wastewater mains were built between 1910 and 1972. The existing water mains are identified to be aging and in need of repair and replacement due to poor condition, service interruptions and increased maintenance efforts. Some of these mains also need to be upsized to meet future demands. The installation of the proposed segments will improve the capacity of the water and wastewater systems, reduce maintenance costs, and minimize service interruptions.
