BACKGROUND
Due to severe erosion at the south abutment of the existing bridge, the bridge had to close with immediate effect for public safety. A new pedestrian bridge was proposed to provide access to the park and the playground.
On September 26, 2023, a Request for Proposal was issued to provide engineering and design services for the Dixon Branch Greenbelt Pedestrian Bridge.
On October 21, 2024, Administrative Action No. 24-6241 authorized a professional services contract with IEA, Inc. for surveying, schematic design, design development, basic hydraulics and hydrology studies, for the Dixon Branch Greenbelt Pedestrian Bridge Project located at 10305 Lippitt Avenue.
This item includes the design for the repair of an existing bridge through a reprogramming of Council District 9 bond funds (Dixon Branch), the design of a new bridge that is in the 2024 Bond Program (Herndon Park) and the repair of a retaining wall (Flagpole Hill).
This action will authorize Supplemental Agreement No. 1 to the professional services contract with IEA, Inc. to provide engineering design and consulting services for the Dixon Branch Greenbelt Pedestrian Bridge, Herndon Bridge and design the repair of the retaining wall at Flagpole Hill Trail, in an amount not to exceed $250,960.00 increasing the original contract amount from $98,430.00 to $349,390.00.
