Body
BACKGROUND
Simulation training provides a realistic, risk-free environment to practice critical decision-making skills, enhancing positive decisions, situational awareness, and spatial awareness. This purchase, through a cooperative purchasing agreement, will provide hands-on experiential training for Department of Sanitation new truck drivers and re-training to those in need, offering experience without risks to people or equipment. This advanced simulator allows drivers to experience real-life commercial vehicle operating conditions in a safe and controlled environment, helping them acclimate to the unique challenges of operating Sanitation vehicles. The simulator can recreate specific driving scenarios, such as maneuvering through various types of collection points, and navigating hazardous road and weather conditions. Simulated programs enable tracking a driver’s performance, allowing instructors to assess driving progress, identify areas for improvement, tailor training accordingly, and can assist with addressing driving deficiencies identified through accidents or incidents.
The Omnia cooperative agreement is authorized by Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code and Subchapter F, Chapter 271, Texas Local Government Code. Section 271.102 of the Texas Local Government Code authorizes a local government to participate in a Cooperative Purchasing Program with another local government or a local cooperative organization. This cooperation ensures that the procurement process is efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with state regulations.
