Authorize the purchase of a firefighting robot vehicle for the Fire-Rescue Department - Municipal Emergency Services, sole source - Not to exceed $472,720 - Financing: Homeland Security-Urban Area Security Initiative Funds

BACKGROUND
This purchase will provide for a firefighting robot vehicle for the Fire-Rescue Department. This firefighting robot vehicle will provide assistance to firefighters while combating fires from a remote location. The firefighting robot vehicle is remotely operated and provides real-time, high-definition, and inferred video, allowing the operator to navigate through hazardous terrain in rescue operations. This firefighting robot vehicle has the ability to push vehicles from its path and the agility to climb stairs with an output of a maximum 2500 gallons per minute.
As part of the solicitation process and in an effort to increase competition, the Office of Procurement Services used its procurement system to send out email notifications to vendors registered under relevant commodity codes. To further increase competition, the Office of Procurement Services uses historical solicitation information, the Internet, and vendor contact information obtained from user departments to contact additional vendors.
