Body
BACKGROUND
The overall goal of this project is to ensure the Dallas Police Department (DPD) remains in compliance with State law while supporting the timely testing of 534 sexual assault kits. DPD will measure success through a database tracking the number of kits tested and testing outcomes, including the development of suspect Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) profiles for entry into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), when applicable. CODIS results may identify unknown assailants or establish forensic links to other offenses, providing detectives with investigative leads that may not have otherwise been available. This funding supports compliance with SB Senate Bill 1636 and HB House Bill 8, timely forensic processing, and the development of actionable investigative leads that strengthen case investigations and support public safety.
