BACKGROUND

 

The City of Dallas was awarded a grant of $2.9 million from the 2023 Highway Safety Improvement Program administered by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to upgrade 4 high accident intersections. Upgrades will include removal of existing traffic signals and replacing them with new traffic signals; pedestrian and Americans with Disabilities Act related improvements; and other related construction.

 

The City is responsible for design of the traffic signals with an estimated cost burden of $200,000.00. TxDOT is responsible for bidding the construction package, administering the federal funds for construction and direct state cost in an estimated amount of $2,833,629.05, and contributing construction, direct state, and indirect state costs in an estimated amount of $588,825.07. The total estimated project cost is $3,622,454.12. Although it is not anticipated, the City may be responsible for cost associated with utilities, environmental assessment and mitigation, and right-of-way and real property if TxDOT determines that the specific work is necessary for successful completion of the project.

 

On-System Intersections:

 

                     Ledbetter Drive (State Loop (SL) 12) at Westmoreland Road (CSJ 0581-02-164), (CD 3)

                     Walton Walker Boulevard (SL 12) at Kiest Boulevard (CSJ 0581-02-163), (CD 3)

                     Scyene Road (State Highway 352) at Masters Drive (CSJ 0430-01-069), (CD 7)

                     Buckner Boulevard at (SL 12) at Hermosa Drive (CSJ 0581-01-175), (CD 9)

 

This action will authorize an Advance Funding Agreement with TxDOT for construction of the traffic signals. Any change orders or overruns are the responsibility of TxDOT.

 

Construction of the traffic signals is scheduled to begin in FY 2027.

FISCAL INFORMATION
