Body
BACKGROUND
This grant award will fund two Outreach & Advocacy Specialist positions for the Dallas Police Department (DPD). The specialists will work with RIGHT Care Team to provide social referrals when mental health or social needs are identified, rather than proceeding with emergency detention for the individual and taking the individual to Dallas County Parkland Memorial Hospital for psychiatric monitoring. The main goal of this project is to enhance community-oriented policing within DPD and continue the Long-Term Care CIT Program that will reduce and prevent repetitive emergency detentions of individuals with mental and behavioral needs. They will follow up with individuals to ensure they are continuing with care over long periods of time.
