Body
BACKGROUND
This action will authorize a construction contract for the installation of approximately 14,085 feet of water and wastewater mains ranging in size from 6-inch to 36-inch in diameter. The scope of the work includes the installation of approximately 200 feet of 6-inch, 1,730 feet of 8-inch, and 1930 feet of 12-inch diameter water mains as well as the installation of approximately 2,170 feet of 8-inch, 280 feet of 12-inch, 2,125 feet of 16-inch, 2,900 feet of 24-inch and 2,750 feet of 36-inch diameter wastewater mains.
A significant portion of this construction project is associated with the installation of approximately 2,350 feet of 36-inch diameter wastewater interceptor by tunneling methods in a new alignment along Timber Trail Drive from Woodleigh Drive north to Marsh Lane. These improvements are a continuation of a wastewater interceptor constructed in 2022. The new wastewater interceptor will provide increased capacity recommended by master planning and relocate the existing interceptor from beneath the bottom of the creek, reducing the potential for inflow and infiltration and increasing accessibility and safety for maintenance operations.
The existing water and wastewater mains included for replacement were built between 1955 and 1964. These mains are contributing to an increase in maintenance costs, as well as service interruptions. The installation of the proposed segments will improve the capacity of the water and wastewater systems, reduce maintenance costs, and decrease the risk of sanitary sewer overflows.
