Body
BACKGROUND
This donation is made possible through the financial support of QuikTrip Corporation, which provided funds to ATO specifically for this project.
The Reality Based Training (RBT) Unit, located at the Dallas Police Department’s Basic Training Academy, was established nearly 20 years ago to provide hands-on, stress-inoculation training for recruits and officers. By simulating realistic, high-stress scenarios, the RBT Unit helps officers build critical decision-making skills and prepares them for real-world field conditions.
Since 2006, the RBT Unit has utilized four aging portable buildings-designed to represent a house, hotel, bar, and office-for training exercises. These structures, located on the edge of the Academy property, have significantly deteriorated due to weather exposure and frequent use. Replacement is necessary to maintain a safe and effective training environment.
To support the development of a modern Reality Based Training Village, the Assist the Officer Foundation (ATO) is generously donating new container-based training structures to the Dallas Police Department’s Basic Training Academy. In addition to the training structures, ATO will also contribute funds-provided by QuikTrip-to the City of Dallas, to support site preparation and related construction activities at the Academy; located at 5310 Redbird Center Drive, Dallas, Texas 75237.
This public-private partnership will enhance officer readiness by ensuring recruits receive the highest quality training in a realistic, safe, and purpose-built environment.
