Body

BACKGROUND

On December 11, 2024, the Department of Code Compliance accepted a two-year grant in the amount of $100,000.00 from Bloomberg Philanthropies to implement the “Love Your Block” Initiative. This project demonstrates the City’s commitment to supporting engaged volunteers in activities aimed at preventing blight, addressing neighborhood concerns, and strengthening communities across Dallas. The City Council authorized Resolution No. 24-1756 for the “Love Your Block” grant on the same date, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. In 2025, the Department of Code Compliance awarded over 25 mini-grants of $1,500.00 each to support community beautification and resident-led improvement efforts. A briefing on this initiative was presented to the Quality of Life, Arts & Culture Committee on August 19, 2024.

Under a new agreement, which is a sub-agreement to the main contract signed on December 11, 2024 with Johns Hopkins University, the Department of Code Compliance will receive an additional $60,000.00. This funding will be used to hire a temporary employee and to provide additional mini-grants focused on neighborhood beautification and community-led projects. The temporary employee will be responsible for managing, developing, implementing, and coordinating engagement strategies to support resident-driven initiatives. This individual will play a key role in engaging residents, partners, and stakeholders and ensuring the successful execution of volunteer-based programs citywide.
