BACKGROUND
The Park & Recreation Department is seeking Bureau of Land Management (BLM) funding to support invasive species management activities for Harry S. Moss Park located at 7601 Greenville Avenue. The proposed project is anticipated to address priority invasive plant species through treatment, site management, follow-up maintenance, and monitoring, with the final acreage, methods, staffing, volunteer participation, equipment needs, and budget to be refined prior to application submission.
The BLM FY26 Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Program supports projects that prevent, detect, inventory, control, and monitor invasive plants and noxious weeds. Program priorities include early detection and rapid response, education and citizen science, invasive species treatments, and rehabilitation activities.
The grant provides awards from $20,000.00 to $400,000.00 and does not require cost sharing.
Applications are due September 25, 2026.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On September 17, 2026, the Park and Recreation Board authorized an application for the FY26 Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Program in an amount not to exceed $400,000.00 from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management for invasive species management activities at Harry S. Moss Park located at 7601 Greenville Avenue.
FISCAL INFORMATION
This action has no cost consideration to the City. The grant funds received will be utilized for invasive species management activities at Harry S. Moss Park as a result of a successful application to the FY26 BLM Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Program. Once the grant is awarded, a future item will be brought to City Council to approve the acceptance of the grant and authorize the funds designated for Harry S. Moss Park.
