Body
BACKGROUND
The Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) owns and operates numerous pieces of operational equipment critical to the distribution and metering of water and collection of wastewater. A condition assessment of various DWU owned meters and meter vaults was performed to identify and prioritize improvements to extend their service life, reduce operational and maintenance costs, and improve worker safety. Improvements to this infrastructure will help ensure DWU continues to meet production demands, accurately monitors wastewater flows for treatment, and meets environmental regulations mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
This action will authorize a construction services contract with John Burns Construction Company of Texas, LLC for the replacement and installation of large water valves and DWU customer city meter vaults. The construction project includes the rehabilitation of six customer city water meter vaults (Desoto North, Farmers Branch Wicker, Cockrell Hill - McLean Avenue, Cockrell Hill - Kernack Street, Cockrell Hill - Meredith Avenue, and Cockrell Hill - Cockrell Hill Road.) and improvements to three customer city wastewater meter vaults (Addison Creek, Keller Springs, and Trinity Mills). Additionally, this project includes improvements to six water system control valves (DP&L Valve, Valve 25, Valve 26, Samuell Valve, Stewart & Turner PRV, and Camp Wisdom PRV). The Desoto North Meter Vault and the Farmers Branch Wicker Meter Vault are not located in the City of Dallas. All construction activities will be coordinated to ensure that treatment plant and conveyance infrastructure maintains sufficient capacity to meet daily needs.
