BACKGROUND

 

The City of Dallas was awarded a grant of $4.1 million from the 2022 Highway Safety Improvement Program administered by TxDOT to upgrade 6 high accident intersections. Upgrades will include removal of existing traffic signals and replacing them with new traffic signals; pedestrian and Americans with Disabilities Act related improvements; and other related construction.

 

The City is responsible for design of the traffic signals with an estimated cost burden of $300,002.00 and is responsible for 100 percent of direct state costs to be paid to TxDOT in the amount of $412,182.70. TxDOT is responsible for bidding the construction package, administering the federal funds for construction in an estimated amount of $4,132,270.70, and contributing construction costs and indirect state costs in an estimated amount of $498,541.53. The total estimated project cost is $5,342,996.93.

This action will authorize local participation in the amount of $412,182.70 to be disbursed to TxDOT.

 

Any change orders or overruns are the responsibility of the City of Dallas.

 

Construction of the traffic signals is scheduled to begin in FY 2026.

On September 11, 2024, the City Council authorized a professional engineering services contract with BGE, Inc. for traffic signal design services for the six intersections in Group 11 as follows: Lancaster Road at Ledbetter Drive, Al Lipscomb Way at Robert B Cullum Boulevard, Metropolitan Avenue at Robert B Cullum Boulevard, Ledbetter Drive at Pastor Pryor Drive, Ledbetter Drive at Cockrell Hill Road, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Robert B Cullum Boulevard by Resolution No. 24-1281.
