Body
BACKGROUND
The City of Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) provides drinking water and fire flow protection to approximately 2.4 million people in the City of Dallas and 23 customer cities. DWU’s water delivery system consists of 22 pump stations, 21 storage tanks, 18 pressure planes, and over 5,000 miles of pipeline infrastructure. DWU has evaluated the condition and long-term needs of its infrastructure through master planning and condition assessment efforts and identified key facilities and equipment that need to be rehabilitated or replaced. The existing Garland Road elevated water tank is one of those critical pieces of infrastructure that was built in 1954 and has shown structural deficiencies. Because of the age and structural integrity of the tank, the existing Garland Road tank was identified for replacement in master planning efforts and a new tank is being built at 205 Executive Drive to improve service reliability. A new 36-inch diameter water transmission pipeline is needed to deliver water to the elevated storage tank.
This action will authorize a construction services contract with North Texas Contracting, Inc. for the installation of approximately 6,780 feet of 36-inch diameter water transmission pipeline to deliver water to the 2-million-gallon elevated water storage tank. The 36-inch diameter water pipeline will be constructed in Jupiter Road, Northwest Highway, and Executive Drive. It will connect to the new elevated water storage tank located at 205 Executive Drive and will tie-in to an existing 48-inch diameter water main on Jupiter Road and Wyatt Street. The project also includes the relocation of an existing wastewater main in conflict with valves for the 36-inch diameter water main at Northwest Highway and Executive Drive.
