BACKGROUND
On May 17, 2024, the City Manager received a memorandum signed by three Council members to consider an application for a Street Name change of S. Central Expressway (SH 310/US 175) between C.F. Hawn Freeway (US 175) and Al Lipscomb Way to “S.M. Wright Freeway (FWY)”. The justifications for this application are provided in the attached City Council Memorandum.
On May 17, 2024, notification signs were put up on S. Central Expressway (SH 310/US 175) between C.F. Hawn Freeway (US 175) and Al Lipscomb Way in accordance with Section 51A-9.503(b) of the Dallas Development Code to change the street name to “S.M. Wright Freeway (FWY)”.
On May 18, 2024, the newspaper notice for the Subdivision Review Committee hearing was published. On May 20, 2024, notices were sent to 122 property owners notifying them of the proposed street name change. On Thursday June 6, 2024, the Subdivision Review Committee by unanimous vote recommended approval of the Street Name Change.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the City Plan Commission by unanimous vote recommended approval of the Street Name Change.
On July 29, 2024, the newspaper notice for the City Council hearing was published. On July 26, 2024, notices were sent to 122 property owners notifying them of the proposed street name change. The City Council hearing is scheduled on August 14, 2024.
Staff recommends approval to the request to change the name of a S. Central Expressway (SH 310/US 175) between C.F. Hawn Freeway (US 175) and Al Lipscomb Way to “S.M. Wright Freeway (FWY)”.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)
On June 6, 2024, the Subdivision Review Committee by unanimous vote recommended approval to the request to change the name of S. Central Expressway (SH 310/US 175) between C.F. Hawn Freeway (US 175) and Al Lipscomb Way to “S.M. Wright Freeway (FWY)”.
On June 20, 2024, the City Plan Commission by unanimous vote recommended approval to the request to change the name of S. Central Expressway (SH 310/US 175) between C.F. Hawn Freeway (US 175) and Al Lipscomb Way to “S.M. Wright Freeway (FWY)”.
