BACKGROUND

The Youth Commission began serving high school students of Dallas in 1994 with a restart in 2016, allowing them to serve their community while gaining the tools necessary to become effective and dedicated leaders in the future. The success of the Youth Commission and the City's continued commitment to adolescent involvement in city policy making has led to a need for collegiate students to be given the same platform regarding issues that impact their quality of life in the City.

The College Advisory Commission will serve the collegiate youth of Dallas County, allowing them to apply their collegiate experiences to real-world challenges with aspirations of political or policy related careers. The purpose of the College Advisory Commission is to promote regular and active civic engagement among college-aged residents of Dallas County by giving them a formal role in local decision making, offering real world experiences with elected bodies, providing opportunities to partner with City Council and the City's Boards and Commissions and creating an avenue to engage in discussions with other college students.

The College Advisory Commission will serve as an advisory board to the Dallas City Council, City Council Committees, and the City Manager's Office regarding issues impacting collegiate residents.
