BACKGROUND

The proposed ordinance amending the Code of Ethics is based on recommendations from the Ad Hoc Committee on General Investigating and Ethics; the Ethics Advisory Commission; and the Office of Inspector General.

While the current Code of Ethics is intended to apply to persons doing business with the city, persons doing business with the city are not linked to certain standards of behavior and civility and other provisions in the Code of Ethics. The proposed amendments clarify that persons doing business with the city are held to the same standards as city officials and employees in their interactions at the city.
