BACKGROUND

 

Proposition L, approved by the voters in November 2024, amends the City Charter to establish the Office of the Inspector General as an independent department. This new department will enhance oversight, accountability, and transparency within city operations. As part of this transition, the existing Inspector General division will be relocated from the City Attorney’s Office to the newly formed Office of the Inspector General. The Inspector General division and all associated functions and operations, positions, and funding will be transferred to the Office of the Inspector General.

 

PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)

 

On December 8, 2021, the City Council authorized the creation of the Inspector General's Division in the City Attorney’s Office by Resolution No. 21-2023.
