BACKGROUND

The City Manager’s recommended budget for FY 2026-27 set the property tax rate at $0.6978 per $100 assessed valuation, a $0.0010 decrease from the FY 2025-26 property tax rate of $0.6988 per $100 assessed valuation.
 
The FY 2026-27 proposed tax rate of $0.6978 per $100 assessed valuation is greater than the FY 2026-27 calculated no-new-revenue tax rate of $0.662063 per $100 assessed valuation. On August 25, 2026, City Council authorized a public hearing to be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 to receive comments on a proposed tax rate of $0.6978 per $100 assessed valuation; and a proposal to consider adoption of a tax rate of $0.6978 per $100 assessed valuation or a lower rate as may be proposed by the City Council on September 16, 2026.

The City published a public notice in the official newspaper of Dallas Morning News, on the City’s website, and on the City’s free access TV. The City also published the public notice in Al Día, The Dallas Examiner, Dallas Voice, Dallas Chinese News, and NGU?I VI?T DALLAS.

PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)

The City Council was briefed on the City Manager’s Recommended Biennial Budget for FY 2026-27 and FY 2027-28 which included a proposed tax rate of $0.6978 per $100 assessed valuation on August 11, 2026.


On August 25, 2026, the City Council authorized a public hearing to be held on September 16, 2026, by Resolution No. 26-1305.
