BACKGROUND

In October 2018, the federal government passed the America's Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) which requires water systems serving a population of more than 3,300 to conduct a Risk and Resilience Assessment of its water supply and distribution system, prepare an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and submit a certification of the assessment to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Both the assessment and response plan must be reviewed and updated on a five-year cycle. Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) first completed the required assessment, ERP, and certification to EPA in 2020. It is now time to review and provide an updated assessment and ERP per regulatory requirements. The updated assessment must be completed and certified to the EPA by March 31, 2025, and the ERP must be updated and certified to the EPA by September 30, 2025.
