BACKGROUND
Sergeant Michael Smith (Sgt. Smith) served in the Dallas Police Department for nearly three decades with part of his service as a member of the Love Field Unit. He honorably served the City from September 28, 1989 to July 7, 2016. Sgt. Smith was a former U.S. Army Ranger and also worked off-duty security at Watermark Community Church for several years. Sgt. Smith received 86 commendations along with many other awards during his career. Sgt. Smith was killed in the line of duty on July 7, 2016. The City of Dallas wishes to honor and remember Sgt. Smith’s contributions to the City and to Dallas Love Field by naming the Dallas Love Field Law Enforcement Building in his honor.
