BACKGROUND

Based on information provided by the applicant, groundwater is first encountered at 5 feet below ground surface. A portion of the designated groundwater has been affected by chlorinated volatile organic compounds (cVOCs) and metals at concentrations above groundwater ingestion standards. Potential on-site sources of the chemicals of concern identified in groundwater appear to be associated with Cobb Carpet Supply, a former carpet cleaning product supplier that operated from the mid-1980s through January 2022 and potentially from naturally occurring background conditions. Potential off-site sources include a drain cleaning/unclogging chemical distribution facility and printing operations to the west and northwest.

The applicant has requested that the City support its application for an MSD. A public meeting will be held on October 14, 2025, to receive comments and concerns. Notices of the meeting will be sent to 181 property owners within 2,500 feet of the property and 117 private well owners within 5 miles of the property. There are no other municipalities within one-half mile of the property.
