BACKGROUND
On June 19, 2024, the City of Dallas received three separate petitions, submitted by Dallas HERO Initiative in accordance with Section 9.004(a) of the Texas Local Government Code.
Ordinance No. 32800 ordering a special election to be held in the City of Dallas on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City three proposed amendments to the Dallas City Charter, submitted by Dallas HERO Initiative in accordance with Section 9.004(a) of the Texas Local Government Code (Dallas HERO Initiative amendments) was approved by the Dallas City Council on August 14, 2024.
As of Friday, September 6, 2024 (the date of the posting of this agenda item in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act), In re Dallas HERO, No. 24-0678, was pending at the Supreme Court of Texas. Because a subsequent ruling on that case could trigger an amendment to Ordinance No. 32800, this item has been placed on the September 11, 2024, city council agenda for potential city council action.
