BACKGROUND

This item will allow for the purchase of two fleet vehicles and six pieces of equipment for the Water Utilities Department (DWU) which consist of the following:

* Vacuum truck Combination Pressure Truck - 1
* Hydro Excavator truck - 1
* Trailers - 4
* Heavy Duty Walk Behind Concrete Saw - 1
* Hydraulic Swing Tube Concrete Pump - 1

The Combination Pressure truck and Hydro Excavator truck will be used by DWU to maintain the over 4,000 miles of sanitary sewer mainlines. The Combination Pressure truck unit operates with an air vacuum and a high-pressure water system to break up and remove the debris obstructing the sanitary sewer mainlines. The combined pressurized cleaning and vacuum capabilities are an effective and efficient operation for the prevention of sanitary sewer overflows and will assist the Division's operations in meeting their Texas Commission Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permit requirements.

The Hydro Excavator truck uses high-pressure water to break up compacted soil. After breaking up the soil, excavation workers use a vacuum to lift it into the debris tank.
