BACKGROUND
The East Side Water Treatment Plant (ESWTP) has a current treatment capacity of 440 million gallons per day and is the largest of three water treatment plants serving customers of the City of Dallas. The plant was originally constructed in 1962 with a capacity of 100 million gallons per day, which included the laboratory located on the second floor of the administration building. Since that time only minor renovations and reconfigurations of the administration building have occurred, and the laboratory footprint has remained much the same as when it was originally constructed.
The current laboratory space is approximately 1,400 square feet and houses all laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment. It accommodates fifteen individual laboratory instruments, ten lab employees, and processes on average 3,350,000 samples per month. The analysis includes plant compliance, process control, and special project samples for the Water Quality division. This laboratory is also responsible for analyzing distribution system samples to maintain the Revised Total Coliform Rule compliance for the entire City of Dallas.
