BACKGROUND
The Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) owns and operates numerous pieces of operational equipment critical to the distribution and metering of water. A condition assessment of various DWU owned meter vaults throughout the city was performed to identify and prioritize improvements to extend their service life, reduce operational and maintenance costs and improve worker safety. These underground vaults range in size from 100 to 600 square feet with a depth ranging from 10-15 feet. They also contain valves, meters, and monitoring equipment necessary to deliver water to the residents of Dallas and wholesale customers.
On February 8, 2017, the City Council authorized a construction services contract with Oscar Renda Contracting, Inc. for rehabilitation improvements to aging infrastructure at the Irving Jamison Meter Vault (1955) and the Irving North Meter Vault (1975). Also included was the construction of a new water meter vault adjacent to the Cypress Waters Pump Station which serves the far northwest part of Dallas. The new meter vault allows DWU to better monitor, measure and control water volume and quality delivered to customers in far northwest Dallas.
