BACKGROUND

This action does not encumber funds; the purpose of a cooperative purchasing agreement is to establish firm pricing for services, for a specific term, which are ordered on an as needed basis.

This cooperative purchasing agreement will provide for commercial wireless communication services and equipment for the Department of Information and Technology Services. The agreement allows for wireless cell phone use which increases mobility and collaboration between departments. Additionally, this agreement allows for the purchase of mobility services that can be used in smart devices, such as cradle point or mobile tablets. Wireless technology includes voice, data, and internet services which are used in various forms of communications and connectivity. Utilizing commercial wireless technology will provide the ability for staff to access information, research, and respond instantly while not locally connected.

The Department of Information Resources cooperative agreement is authorized by Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code and Subchapter F, Chapter 271, Texas Local Government Code. Section 271.102 of the Texas Local Government Code which authorizes a local government to participate in a Cooperative Purchasing Program with another local government or a local cooperative organization.
