Staff Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a carport on the driveway side of the main structure be denied without prejudice with findings of fact that a covered structure in a side yard is not appropriate to the historic structure or the district, should be located in a rear yard, and must be at least eight (8) feet from the main structure.  Therefore, the proposed work is not consistent with preservation criteria Section 9; City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; or the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Setting (District/Neighborhood).

Task Force Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a carport on driveway side of the main structure be approved with the condition that the site plan with dimensions is submitted to determine carport location is appropriate and in compliance with the historic district ordinance.
