BACKGROUND

The Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) owns and operates numerous pieces of operational equipment critical to the distribution and metering of water and collection of wastewater. On September 11, 2019, the City Council authorized a professional services contract with Espey Consultants, Inc. dba RPS Infrastrucuture, Inc. for engineering and architectural services for the design, construction administration, and start-up associated with the Large Valve and Meter Project. A condition assessment of various DWU owned meters and meter vaults was performed to identify and prioritize improvements to extend their service life, reduce operational and maintenance costs, and improve worker safety. Improvements to this infrastructure will help ensure DWU continues to meet production demands, accurately monitors wastewater flows for treatment, and meets environmental regulations mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Engineering designs and specifications were prepared for the improvement of large valves and meter vaults at 15 locations.
