BACKGROUND

 

On November 5, 2024, Dallas voters approved Proposition L, which amends the Dallas City Charter by adding a new chapter that establishes the Office of the Inspector General with the Inspector General being appointed by City Council and listing the duties of the Inspector General.

 

On November 19, 2024, City Council received the report of the Ad Hoc City Council Canvassing Committee and adopted a resolution accepting the Canvassing Committee’s report declaring the results of the November 5, 2024, special election for the purpose of adopting amendments to the Charter of the City of Dallas.

On November 19, 2024, City Council determined that it is necessary to appoint an Interim Inspector General during the time it takes to select and appoint a new Inspector General.

 

PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)

 

On August 14, 2024, City Council approved an ordinance ordering a special election to be held in the City of Dallas on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City, proposed amendments to the Dallas City Charter. This ordinance included Proposition L.
