Body
BACKGROUND
The existing 66-inch diameter Elm Fork Denton - Royal water transmission main has a has two-way feed from the Elm Fork Water Treatment Plant and the Bachman Water Treatment Plant and is a critical water main for Dallas Water Utilities Department (DWU) customers in the city of Dallas and customer cities. It has feed point connections serving the customers' cities of Carrollton and Farmers Branch.
This action will authorize a construction services contract with John Burns Construction Company of Texas, LLC to install water transmission valves at 3 locations along the Elm Fork Denton - Royal Pipeline. DWU needs to add the 66-inch diameter isolation valves to provide increased redundancy and reliability to customer connections. In the event of a main failure, the proposed valves can be closed to reduce water losses, maintain service, and isolate the main for repairs. Once completed, the improved system isolation will allow customers to be supplied with water sourced from another available feed point in the event of pipeline failure or planned maintenance.
