body

BACKGROUND

Park(ing) Day is a globally recognized event occurring around the third Friday of September focused on promoting community engagement. On Park(ing) Day, the community creates mini parks, booths for selling goods, and other art/entertainment related activities to repurpose public parking spots. Throughout the years, Park(ing) Day events have been held in the City of Dallas, alongside other cities in Texas and globally.

Park(ing) Day is based on the New Urbanism idea of human-scaled urban designs, neighborhoods with community connection and the conservation of our natural environments. New Urbanism encourages civic maintenance of neighborhoods by revitalizing the communities’ pride and ability to care about the environment and all public spaces within the neighborhood.

Under Section 42A-1, the city may facilitate temporary activities, including special events which benefit the city, “stimulate economic growth, and provide a vibrant, active community for all citizens.”
