Request

A Certificate of Appropriateness to replace two (2) large existing aluminum wood windows with three (3) all wood ganged windows on the corner side facade, and three (3) vinyl ganged windows on the rear facade in the configuration matching front façade windows.

Applicant Beverly Dowdy

Application Filed 7/31/2026

Staff Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace two (2) large existing aluminum wood windows with three (3) all wood ganged windows on the corner side facade and three (3) vinyl ganged windows on the rear facade in the configuration matching front façade windows be approved with a finding of fact that the wood windows on the side façade are more appropriate than the existing aluminum and that the proposed rear vinyl windows are on the rear (not protected) facade and that the rear fence will shield the windows from the public view. Considering this finding, the proposed work is consistent with preservation criteria Section 4.1; City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; and/or the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Rehabilitation (District/Neighborhood).

Task Force Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace two (2) aluminum wood windows with an all-wood casement window in the same dimensions as existing aluminum windows be approved with the condition that windows are all wood historic sash windows with divided lites on top, per Section 5.2.
