BACKGROUND

This item will authorize the acceptance and execution of the 2024-25 Veterans Treatment Court Grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans' Assistance. The Commission awarded the City a one-year grant with the project period from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) seeks to identify veterans with a substance use disorder and/or a co-occurring mental health disorder who have at least one unadjudicated City of Dallas Class C misdemeanor. Eligible veterans will be offered an opportunity to participate in the VTC Program where their criminal citations will be adjudicated, and they will be assessed and assigned a case manager and referred to services such as alcohol/drug treatment and recovery support services.
