Staff Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to cover existing masonry coping on main building with metal coping at top of parapet - color to match that of existing masonry coping be denied without prejudice. The proposed work would introduce a non-historic metal material onto a character-defining parapet condition, resulting in an alteration that is inconsistent with the required façade appearance and historic material character of contributing warehouse-era buildings. The work would adversely affect the historic architectural integrity of the structure and is, therefore, inappropriate. The proposed work is not consistent with preservation criteria Section 5.2 pertaining to façade materials and Section 5.7 pertaining to façade appearance; the standards in City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
