BACKGROUND
Fire Station No. 43 is an approximately 8,648 square feet, three-bay, single-story facility originally constructed in 1958. For more than six decades, the station has served as a critical public safety asset for the surrounding community, providing fire suppression, emergency medical response, and related emergency services. Although the station is located within a predominantly residential area, a significant portion of its emergency response activity is generated by nearby commercial establishments, including small businesses, restaurants, and nightclubs concentrated along Harry Hines Boulevard corridor commonly referred to as "the strip." The high volume and diverse nature of emergency calls in this area place substantial operational demands on the facility and its personnel.
After 68 years of continuous service, the existing station has exceeded its intended useful life and no longer adequately supports modern fire-rescue operations, emergency response requirements, or current building standards. Aging building systems, space limitations, and outdated infrastructure impact operational efficiency and limit the station's ability to effectively accommodate contemporary firefighting apparatus, equipment, and evolving emergency medical service functions.
