A Certificate of Appropriateness to remove the existing rear deck, detached patio cover, and attached garage pergola and construct a new rear all-season covered porch and new attached garage pergola.

Staff Recommendation

That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to remove the existing rear deck, detached porch cover, and existing garage attached carport and construct a new rear covered porch and garage attached pergola be approved in accordance with drawings and specifications dated August 18, 2026, with the condition that the railings and steps of the new rear porch be all wood; as conditioned, the finding of fact that the proposed work is compatible with the district would not have an adverse effect on the structure or district. Implementation of the proposed conditions would allow the proposed work to be consistent with preservation criteria Sec.51P-87-111(a)(2) and (Sec.51P-87-111(a)(11); City Code Section 51A-4.501(g)(6)(C)(i) for contributing structures; and/or the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Rehabilitation.

Task Force Recommendation

No quorum - comments only. That the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to remove the existing rear deck, detached porch cover, and existing garage attached carport and construct a new rear covered porch and garage attached pergola structure be supported per ordinance.  However, task force notes the arbor rafter should be flat and not sloped and that the Trex railings and steps should be wood. *Note: applicant has addressed steps and railings in drawings submitted on August 18, 2026.
