BACKGROUND

This item is on the addendum due to an August 29, 2019 request with a National League of Cities deadline of September 17, 2019.

The National League of Cities (NLC) is a national membership association, serving the interests of 19,000 cities, towns, and villages and their municipal professionals. NLC’s goal is to proactively drive federal policy on behalf of cities and build effective and connected municipal leaders who elevate the quality of life for our nation.

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam McGough has served as a City of Dallas representative on NLC Federal Advocacy Committees since his first term on City Council. In 2016, he served on the Community & Economic Development Committee and since 2017, he has served on the Public Safety & Crime Prevention Committee. Comprised of local officials from NLC member cities and towns across the country, the Committees play a central role in developing the organization’s federal policy positions, which are the foundation of NLC’s advocacy efforts. Combined, these federal policy positions make up the National Municipal Policy, a statement of goals, policies, and program objectives that are reviewed annually by the NLC membership.

The Board of Directors governs and oversees all NLC initiatives.  Securing a Board position for 2020-2022 would provide greater influence at the national level both for the City of Dallas and the State of Texas.

Written requests for endorsement must be sent to the Texas Municipal League by September 17, 2019, of which three people will be selected to be endorsed by the TML Board, prior to their 2019 annual conference. National League of Cities Board candidates must submit applications no later than September 24, 2019.
