title

Authorize an agreement between the City of Dallas and the Texas Department of Transportation for sharing Intelligent Transportation Systems Data - Financing: No cost consideration to the City

body

BACKGROUND

Currently the City of Dallas receives eight video feeds from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which are used for monitoring traffic conditions along TxDOT freeway corridors within the City of Dallas. These eight video feeds enable the city  to make adjustments to traffic signal timing along city streets when incidents occur on these corridors. The City of Dallas staff uses a stand-alone software package from the TxDOT Lone Star standalone software application to select a particular TxDOT camera for viewing. As part of the city’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) initiative, the City of Dallas will need a built-in compatibility with the TxDOT Center to Center data sharing protocol. This data sharing agreement will allow selection and control of the TxDOT freeway cameras directly from within the ATMS software platform without having to rely upon using the TxDOT Lone Star software application. The agreement will also integrate the TxDOT Freeway Dynamic Message signs directly into the ATMS system. This will allow City of Dallas staff to view the sign messages directly inside of the ATMS software without having to use the TxDOT Lone Star standalone software application. These capabilities help to streamline operations and duties in the City’s Traffic Management Center.
