Authorize a construction contract for corrosion prevention improvements to three priority water transmission pipelines - Kantex Industries, Inc., only bidder - Not to exceed $7,778,122.50 - Financing: Water Utilities Capital Improvement D Fund

Body
BACKGROUND

Since 2003, Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) has been proactive with its corrosion prevention program by systematically inspecting, evaluating, and implementing corrosion prevention measures and infrastructure improvements to its critical, large-diameter pipelines. This proactive approach reduces service interruptions to customers, reduces the risk of catastrophic failure, and extends the service life of the City's water transmission pipeline assets.
As part of DWU's ongoing corrosion prevention program, construction improvements have been recommended to three critical water transmission pipelines. The proposed improvements have been designed by engineers specializing in the field of corrosion protection. This action authorizes a construction contract for the installation of approximately 986 anodes and 79 test stations along 54-inch, 84-inch, and 90-inch pipelines. The project also includes the installation of a 48-inch butterfly valve and seven 72-inch manholes to provide access and the ability to isolate and dewater the pipelines for the proposed improvements. The installation of the proposed systems will slow pipe deterioration and allow DWU to monitor corrosion along the pipeline.
Kantex Industries, Inc. has had no contractual activities with the City of Dallas in the past three years.
