BACKGROUND

 

This action will authorize an increase to the construction services contract with Turner Construction Company for the installation of fixed shelving and custom furnishings for the new Vickery Branch Library, the purchase and planting of a large mature tree, modifications to the tilt-wall panels, revisions to the Fire Suppression system layout, modifications to the roof framing, and revisions to the restrooms.

 

Deferral of this item would delay the completion date for the construction of this new library.  The new facility is currently on-schedule for opening in November 2020.

PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (COUNCIL, BOARDS, COMMISSIONS)

 

On October 24, 2018, City Council authorized a professional services contract with DSGN Associates to provide architectural, engineering and interior design services for the new Vickery Meadow Branch Library, in the amount of $800,353.00, by Resolution No. 18-1488.

On June 26, 2019, City Council authorized a contract award with Turner Construction Company for the construction of the Vickery Meadow Branch Library in the amount of $6,399,295, by Resolution No. 19-0988.

On February 26, 2020, City Council authorized the acceptance of a donation from the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Inc., on behalf of The Men and Women of Hunt Consolidated, Inc. for the purchase and planting of a large mature tree for the Vickery Branch Library to be located at 8333 Park Lane, in an amount not to exceed $27,500, by Resolution 20-0319.
