BACKGROUND

Dallas Airport System initiated an investigation of existing elevators in the system in January 2020 with PGAL, Inc. to identify and prioritize repairs and/or rebuilds to maintain safety and extend useful life. Report analyzed thirty-two elevators in Dallas Love Field (DAL) and an additional four elevators in outlying buildings. Original installation dates range from 1997 through 2018 with a mix of hydraulic passenger elevators and traction passenger elevators. Assessment of the elevators relative to ongoing sustainable maintenance and performance was conducted for all units. Based on PGAL, Inc. final report dated June 2020, existing elevators in Garages A and B; elevators 13 and 14 in DAL terminal building; and two elevators in outlying buildings were identified as units requiring modernization.

The original contract had sufficient funds remaining to begin bid documentation for repairs and rebuilds of critical, and heavily used, Garage A elevators No. 4 and DAL terminal building elevators No. 2, as well as a door replacement in DAL concourse service elevator No. 8. The architectural work underway as part of the original contract is considered Phase 1 implementation. Subsequently, Phase 2 will include Garage B elevators No. 6 and Phase 3 will address the City of Dallas Vertiport facility.
