body

BACKGROUND

This action will authorize a COVID-19 Emergency Animal Care Grant Agreement between The Humane Society of the United States, through the Mars Petcare, Better Cities for Pets program and the City of Dallas, Department of Dallas Animal Services (DAS).

DAS is committed to working to establish policies and practices that will ensure the ongoing success of our Return to Owner (RTO) Program in the COVID climate. However, due to building capacity limitations, DAS is no longer able to have residents bring their pets into our shelter for low cost microchipping, which is one of the primary drivers for our RTO program’s success. This grant will support DAS' innovative in field microchipping program by allowing our Animal Service Officers to microchip loose owned pets in the field free of charge, as they reunite them with their owners.

Grant funds may be used exclusively for the purchase of microchips for use in the In-Field Chipping Pilot Program
