BACKGROUND

This grant allows for the City to hire a program manager to coordinate the violence interrupter crime reduction strategy, and additional money to evaluate the success of the program through a 3rd entity. Violence interruption programs include activities such as partnering with community leaders, other law enforcement agencies, and using social services provided by the City and outside partners. This community-based program confronts violent offenders and provides clear and concise consequences of actions, offers a moral voice through leadership and coaching in the community, and offers help through social services. The National Network for Safe Communities has expressed their support of the City of Dallas implementing this program and have designated a contact person to be available for technical assistance.
