BACKGROUND

As established in Chapter 2, Article X of Dallas City Code, the Public Art Program of the Office of Arts and Culture works to include works by visual artists in public places of the city using a percentage of City capital improvement projects. Under this program, a commission for artwork at Fire Station No. 46 was initiated through engagement with the Department of Public Works and Dallas Fire Department staff.

Terri Stone was recommended for this Public Art project by the selection panel comprised of art professionals, representatives from the Fire Station No. 46, and representatives from the Department of Public Works.

Artist Background

The Dallas-based artist Terri Stone has completed numerous public art commissions including works for the Dallas Fire Department. With over thirty years of experience, Stone has completed commercial commissions in addition to public art commissions.

Project Description

The working title for this proposed sculpture is The Den. It is a brass-colored powder coated and brushed aluminum artwork representing the mascot of Fire Station No. 46. The proposed height of the sculpture height is approximately 10 feet tall. The width is approximately 8 feet. It will require routine maintenance of washing every 3-5 years.
