BACKGROUND
As established in Chapter 2, Article X of Dallas City Code, the Public Art Program of the Office of Arts and Culture works to include works by visual artists in public places of the city using a percentage of city capital improvement projects. Under this program, a commission for artwork at Fire Station No. 59 was initiated through engagement with the Department of Public Works and Dallas Fire Department staff. A request for qualifications was issued for local artists to design, fabricate and install a two-dimensional artwork on the building fa?ade, reflecting themes that reflects the mission of the Dallas Fire Department and the men and women who work at this station. The type of artwork requested for this location was a two-dimensional artwork on the building fa?ade. Terri Stone was recommended for this project by the selection panel comprised of art professionals, representatives from the Fire Department, and representatives from the Department of Public Works.
Artist Background
The Dallas-based artist Terri Stone has completed numerous public art commissions including works for the Dallas Fire Department. She has been active for over thirty years and has completed commercial commissions in addition to public art commissions.
