Body
BACKGROUND

This item will allow for the purchase of two fiberglass chemical storage tanks for the Water Utilities Department. These tanks will replace existing hydrofluosilicic acid tanks that have reached their end of life at the Eastside Water Treatment Plant. The Water Utilities Department adds hydrofluosilicic acid to potable water to achieve an effective level of tooth decay prevention as directed by the Dallas City Council, recommended by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Water Utilities Department combined water production capacity of approximately 900 million gallons per day of treated water for the City and its wholesale customers; servicing an estimated 2.4 million people in Dallas and surrounding communities.

As part of the solicitation process and in an effort to increase competition, the Office of Procurement Services used its procurement system to send out email notifications to vendors registered under relevant commodity codes. To further increase competition, the Office of Procurement Services uses historical solicitation information, the Internet, and vendor contact information obtained from user departments to contact additional vendors.
