BACKGROUND

The Georgetown Innovative Policing Program, partnering with global law firm Sheppard Mullin, has created Project ABLE* (Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement) to prepare officers to successfully intervene to prevent harm and to create a law enforcement culture that supports peer intervention.

Under this agreement, Caruth Police Institute at the University of North Texas at Dallas (CPI-UNTD) will provide ABLE training to the Dallas Police Department. CPI-UNTD will coordinate with Georgetown-Law ABLE-Georgetown to establish a high priority and rapid access training schedule for no fewer than 50 and no more than 75 Train the Trainer student seats. Upon completion of the Train the Trainer program, CPI-UNTD will implement a full department wide training, including Command Staff, City Management, and Cadets, to complete the ABLE course within no fewer than 12 but no greater than 18 months following completion of the last Train the Trainer certification course.
